WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
I am 22 years old and from a small town called Baytown, TX. I am currently attending my final semester at Texas A&M University where I am getting a degree in Animal Science as well as a certificate in Meat Science. I am an avid weight lifter and enjoy traveling the world. You can find me doing anything but the ordinary. I am a country girl at heart, but love to get a fancy every now and again. I currently make YouTube videos about Keto/Low carb living and love to share my take with the world.
YOUR KETO JOURNEY:
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN KETO?
I started my keto journey December 5, 2015. However, I have not stayed fully keto, as I have fallen off the wagon a few times, but I always manage to hop back on!
HOW DID YOU COME TO THE KETO WAY OF EATING?
As someone with hypothyroidism, I have the hardest time dropping any weight. I was working with a trainer, working out 6 days a week with a ton of cardio thrown in as well, and was seeing little changes. After coming home from a semester in Australia, I had unfortunately gained a little weight. My dad followed a keto diet and I saw him lose weight and start feeling better, so I finally gave in and decided to give it a go even though I couldn't wrap my head around eating fat to lose weight. Slowly but surely though, the weight began to fall off of me and I reached a weight that I hadn’t seen in ages.
WHAT KIND OF RESULTS HAVE YOU GOTTEN FROM EATING KETO?
I no longer step on the scale as I don’t feel like it is an indicator of progress for me anymore, but keto combined with me lifting weights has completely changed my body in the best way possible. I am still working towards my ultimate goal of competing in a bodybuilding competition, but I am working towards that every day.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY SETBACKS OR CHALLENGES IN YOUR KETO JOURNEY?
In times of stress, mostly from school, I have a horrible habit of binge eating/falling off my keto diet. I bloat, I retain water and feel horrible for a few days until I realize how much of an impact keto has on me and I go back to eating the way I know I should.
LET'S TALK ABOUT FOOD!
WHAT ARE A COUPLE OF YOUR GO-TO KETO MEALS?
Bacon and eggs fried in butter, simple yet a great keto meal. Steak and parmesan asparagus. Omeletes stuffed with cream cheese. Zucchini pasta with shrimp and alfredo sauce. Fast Food: Jimmy John Unwich Sandwiches!
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE KETO ESSENTIALS YOU ALWAYS HAVE ON YOUR GROCERY LIST?
Eggs! I use eggs like they are going out of style. Heavy Whipping Cream (For my coffee every morning), Cashew Milk: I use this for everything and make smoothies with it almost daily, Bacon: So delicious and so flavorful, Fatty meats, Cheese, Kerrygold Butter, riced cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus.
WHAT SITES, BLOGS, IG PAGES, FACEBOOK GROUPS, ETC… DO YOU GO TO FOR INFORMATION AND/OR INSPIRATION?
I follow a ton of keto facebook groups and youtube channels as I am always looking for new ideas, inspirations, and recipes. I don’t have really any “go to” sites, because I am constantly searching the internet about keto!
WHAT ARE THE TOP 3 TIPS YOU WOULD GIVE TO A KETO NEWBIE?
- Track your food!: You will be surprised by hidden carb counts of some foods.
- Anything “sugar free” is usually still full of carbs.
- Drink a TON of water! Your body needs extra water while in ketosis!
YOU CAN ONLY EAT 5 KETO APPROVED FOODS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT ARE THEY?
Eggs, Steak, Cheese, Bacon, Peanut Butter
EXERCISE! DO YOU DO IT?!
DO YOU EXERCISE IN ADDITION TO YOUR KETO WOE? IF SO WHAT IS YOUR WORKOUT PLAN AND WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND TO BE MOST SUCCESSFUL?
I weight train 4-5 days a week and have recently been adding in cardio to help me lose weight. I do a 4 day split of legs, back, chest and tris, bis and shoulders and I am always changing up my rep ranges and movements to shock my body.
DO YOU TAKE ANY SUPPLEMENTS, IF SO WHICH ONES?
I am sponsored by the company ManSports and swear by their Iso-Amino coffee creamer, I use it in my coffee each morning, as well as sip on Iso-Aminos during my workouts. Aminos help preserve muscle tissue and oxidize fat, so I believe it is excellent to supplement with them in addition to my daily food. Additionally I use ManSports protein powder, as I use it to cook with in a lot of my recipes!
