Recently the team at PlateJoy reached out to me to try their services. Initially I thought they were a service like Blue Apron or Plated, both of which I love but have struggled with their recipe options since going Ketogenic. But it turns out Plate Joy is totally different from those services. Instead of shipping boxes of portioned out food, Plate Joy gets to know your eating habits through a quiz and then serves you up personalized recipes and a shopping list so you can buy the food to make their recipes.
If you are Instacart shopper you can order your groceries through their site to make it even easier, but you can also take their shopping list and buy everything at the store the traditional way. You can edit the list to remove things you know you already have and their algorithm will keep track of ingredients you have purchased for future recipes. Make sense?! If not here it is in 3 steps:
HOW IT WORKS
STEP 1, TAKE THE QUIZ & APPROVE YOUR MENU: Their 3-minute personalization quiz helps you design a meal plan customized to your unique preferences
STEP 2, THEY SEND YOU A SHOPPING LIST: They organize the ingredients you’ll need into a time saving shopping list for printing or easy phone access
STEP 3, THEY SEND YOU CUSTOM RECIPES: All recipes are personalized to fit your time constraints and free of ingredients you avoid
They have meal plans for the Ketogenic Diet, Paleo, Diabetes and also have plans for 50 different data points which makes this a great service for people who have special dietary needs.
But it isn't just for high-maintenance eaters (like myself:) some of the options include people who want quick dinners or love leftovers so want to make bigger portions. Lots of options!
I of course chose the Ketogenic option and it also had me enter in my height, weight, if I wanted to lose weight and if so how much. Then it gives you options on how many carbs per day you wanted to eat (30, 40 or 50 were the options) and gave a suggested calorie amount which you could edit if you wanted.
You can also choose what meals you want to see recipes for. I chose breakfast, dinner and snacks and decided against lunch. You can also choose how long you want these meals to take. I chose meals that take longer because I only make breakfast on the weekends when I have plenty of time and when I cook dinner I am not necessarily in a hurry. So there are a lot of customization options which is awesome!
Here are the recipes they gave me for this week:
All things I would definitely eat with the exception of turkey bacon- GROSS! Hahaha but seriously who goes on a high fat diet and then suffers through turkey bacon when they can eat the real thing lol. The bacon/guac sandwiches and the jalapeno poppers are definitely perfect and then the dinners would be great too, I would just drizzle them with Brain Octane Oil and probably find even more ways to add fat (bacon in the brussels etc...).
This was the shopping list minus some of the ingredients I already had (like Olive Oil etc...).
I'm always looking for new recipes and this is even easier than Pinterest because they do all the work for me! It even portions things out based on my weight loss goals which is cool.
Here are some other meals I can choose in upcoming weeks:
