Keto In The City

WHAT I'M USING TO TRY AND KEEP MY (ALMOST) 40 YEAR OLD SKIN LOOKING YOUNG

This blog post is a little different than my typical keto blogs, but there is a connection! One of the benefits I have seen from following a ketogenic lifestyle is that a diet high in healthy fats is great for your skin! Wild salmon (not farm-raised), which I eat a ton of, is a great source for omega-3 fatty acids. This helps keep your skin supple and moisturized. But food alone, isn't enough in my opinion and so recently I decided to get more serious about my skin routine.

I turn 40 in March and have always been (and will continue to be) an beach loving, sun worshipper. I started wearing sunblock more consistently about 5 years ago, but my daily routine is super minimal, mostly because I am super lazy when it comes to all things makeup / hair etc... So previously I was using wipes to wash my face and a Murad cleanser in the shower. Then if I remembered I would use a Murad toner (usually I didn't remember) and then a moisturizer. I try different moisturizers, but lately I had been using REN Evercalm. I used to use coconut oil, but got out of that habit when I had eyelash extensions (because the oil makes them fall out).

This probably wasn't the worst combination, but I felt like my skin was kind of dull, my pores were more visible than I would like, and overall I felt like I should be doing more. I also didn't want to start spending tons of money on facials, so I figured maybe I should just step up my product game. I went to the Sephora in Manhattan Beach, near my house, in search of some products that could help. I found them and now my routine includes all of the products in the photo below!

I also still use my Murad Toner that I already had.

I don't use all of these products every day, so here is when and how I use them!

MORNING:

I usually shower at night, so in the morning I just quickly wash my face and then apply the moisturizer to my face and dot the caffeine solution oil around my eyes. Super quick and easy. I don't wear makeup on my face normally, just eye makeup and maybe some highlighter, so I'm ready super fast. The vitamin C is supposed to repair visible signs of aging in a more gentle way.

  2. Sunday Riley CEO C+E antiOXIDANT Protect + Repair Moisturizer
  3. The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% EGCG

REGULAR NIGHT:

5 nights a week I follow this routine. First I wash my face with CEO Cleansing Oil and then use the wipes if there is still eye makeup that didn't get washed off. Then I use the Toner. Once it has soaked in I apply the Luna Sleeping Oil which is blue, but as you rub it into your skin it becomes translucent. After massaging the oil in I wait a couple minutes and then slather on the Good Genes treatment all over my face and then dot the caffeine oil around my eyes. The Luna Oil has retinol in it and the Good Genes has Lactic Acid in it.

BABYFACIAL NIGHT:

Twice a week I do the Babyfacial at night. I put it on a clean, dry face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Then I rinse it off with the CEO Cleansing Oil and apply the Murad toner. Then I apply the Marula Oil, wait 5 minutes and apply the REN Evercalm Moisturizer, I use this one because I worry my skin would get irritated with the Babyfacial and the CEO moisturizer in one night. Then I dot the caffeine solution oil around my eyes. I wake up in the morning and my face is SO SOFT! It's amazing!

So that's the whole routine! I wish I could give you all of this scientific information on why this combination is working for me, but I can't lol. I do know I almost spent as much a someone in a small town might pay in rent, on face stuff and that was painful! BUT it is cheaper than going to get facials all the time and it feels so good to take extra amazing care of your skin.

Also my favorite beauty YouTuber, Wayne Goss, named the Drunk Elephant Babyfacial and The Ordinary Caffeine as 2 of his favorite products as well, so check that out! I'm not the only one who is obsessed:)
