I started Keto in January 2016, I mainly wanted to remove the inflammation from my body because I am fighting 2 autoimmune disorders, but I also wanted to lose weight because I was at my heaviest. I have done Atkins in the past, the longest was for a year and a half, and I had great results but eventually I started “eating like a normal person” again and gained weight. Then about a year and a half ago I was having a lot of issues with my stomach, so after the Drs couldn’t give me a conclusive answer, I decided to go gluten free. Within 2 weeks my stomach issues were much, much better after 6 months of misery. So Keto was the next step. I read a lot about it and I really liked the focus on high quality foods since I have always kept my house as organic/grass-fed/hormone free as possible. That became very important to me when I became a mom (my daughter is now 12!). I also really love to cook AND I really love to eat out, so for me Keto is easy because there are so many things you can eat!

I get Remicade IV infusions every 6 weeks for my autoimmune diseases and I used to get soreness mainly in my hands 1-2 weeks before. Since going Keto I no longer have those issues at all! Another really remarkable change, which may be TMI, but I will share anyway is that I have had the Mirena IUD for 12 years (and still have it) and never had my period (which was great btw haha!) but after the first month of Keto my regular periods came back. I think that is really incredible because to me that says that my body needed that to happen for it to heal and Keto is really all about healing all of the damage that you can’t see, but that is happening inside your body.

I really love the Keto way of life, I plan on eating this way the rest of my life and I can’t wait to continue to see progress and remarkable changes with my body and also with my mind and quality of life!

I know there will be stalls in weight loss and different cycles my body goes through. In fact, I have been the same weight ever since I came home from vacation in early August! 2 months at the same weight! But I have also been very stressed out for the last 2 months, so it makes sense to me that my body is holding onto the weight. I am now becoming more aware of the mental effects on my physical progress and will be working on that. It is all a journey and since Keto is a way of life for me, I am in no rush. When I get discouraged I just look at photos like the one above and realize how amazing it is that I have gotten this far!
